Born in Buckinghamshire, educated in Grantham and Oakham where he received his introduction into athletics. By 1948, at the age of 22, he joined Kettering Town Harriers and for a period through until 1960 collected many prizes for his wins in County, Area and Open events for both cross country and track. He obtained his England vest as a "B" Team member for the home countries at Henlow in 1960. A very outdoor person and devoted member of the club, he sadly passed away in March 1990 at the age of 63.
