3 medals & a record at Midland Championships

The Harriers only had two competitors at the Midland Senior / Under 20 championships, but they came away with a decent haul of three medals and a club record.

Yannick Phippen’s excellent form this season ensured he was one of the leading contenders in the Under 20 sprints. After comfortably qualifying in his heat in the 100m, he stormed through the field in the second half of the final to take the silver medal in 10.92, fractionally outside his best.

Over 200m, Yannick raced away with his heat setting a new wind-legal PB of 21.97. He exactly matched this time in the final (thereby equalling the club record he’d set a couple of hours earlier!), but again had to give second best to Judah Simpson of Derby AC.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Goringe won KTH’s first Midland Senior Men’s medal for several years, as he took third in the 3000m Steeplechase. In contention with just over a lap to go, he was well pleased with a bronze medal and a personal best of 9:49.82.
