A taste of the big time at the Mason Trophy

A number of Harriers were tasting high level competition for the first time at the prestigious Mason Trophy at Birmingham's Alexander Stadium, competing against 9 counties including West Midlands & Greater Manchester.

Maisie Green was first off competing in the U15 Girls 1500m, finishing a very respectable 7th out of 18 competitors in 5.03.6 and beating local rival Ellie Welch in the process. Josh Cara, competing in the U15 boys 1500m, also finished in a respectable 9th position with 4.38.2. Both enjoyed their first taste of competition at this level and will hopefully return next year a full year stronger and taller? New KTH recruit Josh Coles run a poor tactical race, leaving too much to do on the final 400m, and finished in 11th position but not too far off his PB with 4.23.7.

In fact, the only PB achieved by a KTH athlete on the day was by Lorna Milne in the 75m Hurdles. She knocked half a second off her best, with a time of 13.0.

Next it was the turn of the 800m with a nervous Jess Gordon experiencing a big stadium for the first time, she ran well to finish in 12th position in a respectable 2.30.2. Matt Stewart was last off without the support of fellow Harrier Eddie Cherry who could not compete due to stepping on a nail the day before! Matt also finished 12th in 2.04.2.

Niamh Bailey rested in order to recovery in time for the English Schools championships. She is the only Harrier to have been selected this year.

Well done to all.
