Alice Niamh & 800m crew win at County Schools

Kettering Town Harriers' contingent of 800m specialists were in action at the County Schools Championships held at Corby, and recorded some strong performances.

Junior Girls Fran Ashworth and Kayli Walford, representing North Northants, finished 1st and 2nd respectively qualifying for the Mason Trophy in Birmingham. Fran eased home well clear of the field after breaking clear from the pack at the bell to record a new PB of 2.20.5. Kayli saw off a late challenge from two competitors with a strong finish in the last 50m to finish in second with 2.29.4. In action for East Northants were Eddie Cherry (Junior boys) and Matt Stewart (Intermediate boys) who both recorded victories and also both qualifying for the Mason Trophy. Eddie held on to first position after a typical strong front running display with 2.09.2, and Matt impressively outsprinting the field with a blistering last 200m in what was a very tactical race, recording 2.16.2. Lucy Tolton also finished a respectable 4th in 2.38.3 for the intermediate girls race, in a race won by former Harrier Holly Rice (so we nearly had a full set of 800m winners!).

Other Harriers with winning performances were Inter Girls Alice Chapman (100m) and Niamh Bailey (High Jump). Niamh also took second in the 300m. Both girls will also be representing the county at Birmingham.
