BMC Corby - Hard going in the wind ...

It was hard work to go for PB’s for a number of the squad competing at the Corby BMC meeting on Sat evening due to very windy and cool conditions nor great for Middle Distance running!

800m
In the women’s C race Fran Ashworth was the first in action and she aborted any attempt to try for the English Schools qualification time after the first lap, with very strong headwinds into the home straight, and ran a steady second lap to record 2:21.1 in 7th place. In the D race Jess Gordon ran well to improve on her opener the week earlier with 2:20.1 again finishing in 7th place.

Beth Gordon and Dylan Bowley lined up together in the E race and both found the going hard and were well off their best on the night with 2:33.5 & 2:34.1 respectively. There was better news for the Robinson sisters, Amy & Daisy in the F race who both found new PB’s with Amy knocking 12 seconds from her previous best with a strong run to record a fine 2:43.1 in 4th , with Daisy breaking 3:00 for the first time with 2:59.4 in 9th.

1500m
In the A 1500m Jed Lewis was making his track debut after a few frustrating weeks of missing training/ races due to some injury niggles, and ran well to record an opener of 4:27.8, and will look to build on this after his entry fitness tests have been completed for the Royal Marines! In the B race Claudia Nevett and Abigail Coleman were in action and again both struggled in the conditions with Claudia finishing strongly in the last 400m to record 5:07.9, a few seconds off her SB, in 9th and Abigail in 10th with 5:15.6.

3000m
Jack hope and Edward Cannell found the going even harder with 7.5 laps of battling the headwind with Jack abandoning any attempts to try for a sub 9:00 clocking on the night finishing the km strong to close down local rival Issac Akers to within 2 seconds to record a SB of 9:27 which was reasonable in the conditions, and Edward running a solid race to record a SB of 10:16.

Well done to all the athletes, and hopefully conditions will be kinder to go for fast times & ES qualifiers in the new few weeks?

The squads attention is now firmly focused on the upcoming County Championships
