Warm weather conditions contributed to some great sprint performances from the squad at this evening meeting.  Temperatures cooled as the evening progressed, but that didn’t prevent the athletes from putting maximum effort into their races.

 

Making her debut over the 100m distance was U13 athlete, Amelie Chymcakova.  Drawn in heat 2, she won her race in 14.52 seconds, to just edge out Patryk Marzec, also U13, who ran a PB of 14.59 seconds.  Heat 2 was won by Reuben Sloley, U17, in a PB of 12.37 seconds.  Oliver Davies, also U17, followed him home in 2nd place in 13.47 seconds.  Olivia Humphrey, U15, finished 5th in a season best time of 14.06 seconds.

 

Iesaldo Barbosa, U17, made his debut at this meeting.  Running in heat 4, he won his race in 12.29 seconds.  In 2nd place was Kessley Williams, U15, in a PB of 12.69 seconds.  Sophie Bridgeman, U13, finished 6th, setting a new PB of 13.70 seconds.

 All 3 athletes competing in heat 5 ran personal bests.  Aaron Ampofo, U15, finished 2nd in 12.34 seconds, followed by Jude Michael, also U15, who finished 4th in 12.58 seconds.  Veteran athlete, Peter Kraftl, finished just behind Jude in 5th place in 12.63 seconds.  Peter had earlier competed in the long jump, which he won with a jump of 4.72 metres.

 

The final 100m race saw Jacob Smith, Aidan Hooks, and James Atkins finish 4th, 5th, and 6th respectively.  Jacob, U20, ran 12.10, just outside his PB, and looks certain to break the 12 second barrier this season.  Aidan, U17, ran 12.49 and is also likely to dip under 12 seconds soon.  James, U17, was making his debut over the distance, posting a time of two 12.52 seconds.  

 

Harry Smith, U15, was the only squad member who competed in the 300m.  He ran a fast paced start to the race, and put In a strong finish, coming 2nd in a PB of 38.84 seconds.

 

There were 4 heats of the 200m.  Heat 1 saw U15 girls Matilda Abbott, Lucie & Darci Cleaver competing together with Matilda winning in 30.57 seconds, her 1st race over that distance this season.  Lucie Cleaver finished in 2nd place with a PB of 31.14 seconds, and her sister Darci was 3rd in 32.03 seconds.

Heat 2 was won by Oliver Davies in a PB of 28.77 seconds.  2nd and 3rd places went to Holly Abbott, U23, and Olivia Humphrey, U15, in a close race, recording times of 29.17 seconds and 29.20 seconds.  Veteran, Wilika Carr, opened her season with a 30.59 seconds run in 4th place, and Patryk Marzec was 6th in 31.48 seconds.

 

The penultimate race of the evening saw Iesaldo Barbosa make his 200m debut, which he won with ease in a time of 24.89 seconds.  Kessley Williams finished 3rd in the race in a PB of 26.30 seconds, while Sophie Bridgeman was 7th in 28.38 seconds, which was just outside her PB.  Race 4 featured Cole Sinnott who was looking for some speed in preparation for his 400m races.  Despite having a strong finish, he placed 2nd in 22.42 seconds to Corby’s Elliot Lloyd-Uzoegbu, who won in 21.79 seconds. Aaron Ampofo, was 4th in a PB of 24.81 seconds, and Jude Michael also ran a PB to finish 6th in 25.61 seconds.  Aidan Hooks and Elizabeth Reading finished 7th and 8th respectively in 25.81 seconds and 26.50 seconds.  Aidan narrowly missed out on setting a new PB in the race.  Both athletes are highly likely to set new PBs’ as the season progresses.
