The Northamptonshire County Championships, held jointly with Leicestershire & Rutland at Corby, was a huge success for the Harriers who won in excess of 50 medals over the two day championship which saw the Harriers competing against the best athletes from all the County’s Clubs. Weather conditions were fine and warm, with a moderate to light wind which did affect some of the sprint performances.
Sprint Squad
The season is going extremely well for the athletes in the sprint squad, with the squad producing some outstanding performances over the weekend. The performance of the day on the Saturday came from U13 athlete, Sophie Bridgeman, who won gold in her 200m race, setting a personal best of 27.22 seconds, ranking her 12th in the UK rankings. She returned on Sunday to compete in the 100m, and won her heat in 13.59 seconds, another personal best, and a ranking of 20th in the UK. In the final, she ran 13.27 seconds to win gold again, but the wind speed was plus 2.1 and just over the legal limit. The times she ran indicate that the U13 club records will be under threat this season.
