Daisy's Welsh delight

It was a worthwhile 200 mile round trip at the end of September for the Gilbert Family. Traditionally the Wrexham Final Flings throwing event is an athlete’s one last chance to compete in the summer.

Daisy Gilbert took the longstanding club u15 Shot record with a much improved 9.65m and also improved the Club’s new Hammer record to 22.87m. Daisy completed a fine all round performance with a new PB of 17.71 in the Discus.

Annie Gilbert responded to her sister’s performances by also delivering two PBs of her own – a big improvement to 19.25m in the Discus and 6.85m in the Shot.

Daisy’s new u15 Hammer record meant that Harriet Sumnall’s mark of 21.64m the day before at Sandy Open Meeting didn’t make the record board. Harriet also finished the season strongly with two other PBs that day – 23.33m in the discus and 7.57m in the Shot.

All 3 throwers will look to build up strength and technique over the winter in order to push on in 2012...
