Ella & Emily make English Schools!

Congratulations to both Emily Williams & Ella Palmer who both received confirmation of their call up for English Schools for the junior girls & intermediate girls 800m respectively.

The 85th ESAA Track & Field Championships will be held at Gateshead International Stadium on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th July 2015, and is considered to be the best athletic competition for U15-U20 in Athletics, so KTH is rightly proud to have athletes selected for this premier event.

For Emily & Ella it’s a fantastic opportunity to savour the highest level of track & Field competition and to gain valuable experience, both girls set their qualification times in the same race, the Corby BMC meeting in early May, which was a terrific race and the girls were within 0.1 of a second of each other! Both girls also won their respective races with some ease in the county schools and also performed well in the Mason trophy a week later to cement their places in the Northants squads.

Coach Shane Smith said ”Both Emily & Ella have worked so hard to achieve this, all over the winter period in cross country & also week after week in training where both have been flying”. “Emily has done particularly well in difficult circumstances as she lost over 7 weeks training with a fractured foot, and Ella who took the decision to switch from multi-events to middle distance/ long sprints last September has blossomed as a terrific 800m runner and both will have so much more to give in the next few years”.

Sadly it was a case of so near but so far for many of the Harriers who were within touching distance of being selected but lacking the all-important qualification time, so commiserations in particular for: Erin Healy who was injured for a number of weeks and was 0.2 of a second from the 100m time and Jake Trent & Fran Ashworth who were both less than a second from their 800m qualification time.

We wish both the girls the very best of luck on 10 & 11th July.
