EMGP Race Report - Rugby 6 Mile

 KTH Squad after the race

It was a wonderful night for the veterans at the Rugby 6 on Wednesday with the women finishing second and men first, repeating their success of last year. The senior teams were helped by all ages to achieve third in the men’s race and fifth for a women’s team containing all vets. In all, 18 KTH road runners made the trip.

There were some great individual performances on the undulating course that was changed to incorporate a tricky start through a grass field. Taking prizes on the night were: Kerry Munn who again won the F55 in 45:08; Elaine Fairbrother 2nd F45 (45:48); Matt Fowler 2nd M40 (again leading the Harriers home in 35:01); and Phil West 2nd M45 (35:28).

3rd Harrier home was Phil Brigden (35:46 and 4th M40), followed by the youngsters, William Howells (36:03 and 17th MS) and Luke Myers (36:19 and 21st MS). Rafal Busuk made it into the winning male vets’ team (37:32 and 10th M40). Ady King achieved another fine top ten with 6th M50 (38:30) and there was a welcome return and another top ten from Kemal Mehmet (38:40 and 7th M50). Matthew Spearman enjoyed his first EMGP this year (40:33 and 44th MS), closely followed by Bruce Whitehead (40:39 and 4th M55). Another newbie for 2019 was Steve Chester (40:44 and 12th M50) ahead of Bill Robinson (41.15 and 8th M55). Sean Gallagher improved his pace from last week finishing in 42:46 (57th MS). Ant Poncia (39.30 and 50th M40), Babs Poncia (48:48 and a super 3rd F50) and Jackie King (53.54 and 9th F55) all kept their pace from last week on the longer course.

Twenty-two Harriers have taken part in the first two races and we are now well placed to pick up honours at the end of the series. We must do our best to make the longest journey in the series to Banbury on 4th June. If it's any incentive, Banbury is pretty good for cake. Well done this week!
