Congratulations to U20 Fran Ashworth who running only the second time indoors was victorious in the LUCA (London University & College Athletics) indoor championships at Lee Valley, becoming the indoor 800m champion!
Fran qualified with ease in first place in heat 2 with a leisurely 2:43.33, she then returned just a few hours later to run the final where she powered her way to a decisive win to take her indoor championship title.
Fran sat in and tracked the early leader Alex Mundell splitting in 35 & 72 second until 300m to go where she put in a terrific surge to open up a decisive gap to win the race by 5 seconds with a decent (Mid XC) 800m indoor time of 2:21.96 to take Gold, and win a handsome trophy!
This follows a recent successful LCL cross country race where Fran helped secure a team Gold for kings College when they won the University of London XC Championship, she sits in joint 4th place overall in the individual competition with 3 races gone.
