Govilon 3 - An outstanding success

Fresh from receiving an award at the Kettering sports awards for best team, 16 members of the KTH Middle distance squad were involved in the annual Govilon Activity Centre - Winter Training Camp.

Govilon Activity centre situated near Abergavenny provided an ideal base for the middle distance squad to throw themselves into some tough training in preparation for the XC season, with hard sessions including a 10km Fell Run, A super hard sand dune training session at Merthyr Mawr - Europe's largest sand dunes, mixed with some longer easier runs, and a series of Gym tests. It was non-stop action for the squad over the 4 days with other centre based activities including orienteering (running of course!), caving, rock climbing and beach volleyball with a group evening meal and some bowling to cap it off.

The Govilon Activity Centre keen to promote themselves with surrounding clubs in the Northants area commissioned a Marketing agency to film, photograph & interview KTH athletes and coaches to show what can be achieved and this will result in some Local Media/ Centre Website activity in the next few weeks.

All of the activities were scored and competition was fierce with Team & individual competitions (especially between the Coaches, Shane smith/ John Cairns/ Matt Brown & helper Rosie Williams!) and the overall prize winners in the age categories were:

Individual Winners
Fran Ashworth - Female U17/U20
Jack Hope - Male U15/U17
Jennifer Robinson Female U13/U15

All of the athletes who attended received a nice prize in appreciation of their efforts!

The squad showed their level of commitment that despite returning at 4pm on Tuesday 28th exhausted from the various activities...... and with some sleep deprivation they still returned for the (slightly easier) evening training session!

A big thank you to John, Matt & Rosie who's help ensured the trip was an outstanding success, with Govilon 4 in 2015 now firmly in the planning stage!
