Half-term Startrack

Ketterings Town Harriers Aviva Startrack is part of UKA's flagship grassroot athletics programme, aiming to give real athletics experiences to young athletes; this is where World Heptathlon Champion Jessica Ennis started her athletics career as a 10 year old. She is now an Ambassador for the Aviva UKA Academy.

Kettering Town Harriers will be running their Startrack Scheme from the 22nd February – 24th February from 1pm till 3.45pm. The Startrack Scheme will run out of Southfield School for Girls, Kettering. Aimed at athletes from 9 -14 yrs of age they will experience all aspects of athletics from relays to shot putt.

Bookings can me made through Kettering Borough Councils Tourist Information Centre at a cost of £20 per athlete for the 3 days. For this they will receive expert coaching as well as a goody bag.
Aviva Startrack is led by UKA qualified coaches, across the UK. In 2008 over 23,000 children took part in over 600 schemes. The programme is not only a fantastic tool for athletics clubs, but a great resource for schools, sports partnerships, colleges, community groups and local authorities who are aiming to provide children in their area with a range of sporting options.

UKA's key aims for the Aviva Startrack scheme are:
Raise the profile of athletics amongst children in the community.
Introduce children to athletics in a fun and exciting format.
Introduce athletics to minority groups.
Introduce, support and develop coaches and officials.
Help more children to stay involved in athletic athletics, through increasing the level of athletics ‘follow on’ activity – from school to Aviva Startrack and from Aviva Startrack to club.
Help children to improve their athletic skill and give them the opportunity to progress their performance.
