Harrier's in superb form at season openers!

Some of the Harriers talented youngsters were in superb form over the weekend with a UK No 2 performance from 13-year-old Katie Gibson & a fine win in the East Midland Triathlon opening fixture for 14-year-old Freya Batkin.

U15 Katie Gibson threw 42.86m at the Charnwood open to edge into the UK number 2 spot in the 2018 UK rankings. Katie is aged 13 so a bottom year U15 making this a significant achievement, and although early season the throw would have placed her in the UK top 10 last year! The throw also ensured the bottom year Junior girl secures an all-important English Schools qualification mark, and smashes the existing 2013 club record of 23.86m in her first year of high level competition. Katie is coached by KTH throws coach Matt Bell and hopefully we will see further gains through the summer with more PBs and records to come we’re certain!

Well done to Katie, Matt and the KTH throws squad

There was a great start to the multi-sport season for Harriers middle distance squad athlete Freya Batkin, Winning the first race in the East Midlands Series held at RAF Scampton in Lincoln. The opening Race one is a duathlon, consisting of a 2km run 7.5km bike and a 800m run. Batkin got of to a flying start and controlled the race from the offset leading the way after the first 2,000m run. Heading out on to the bike leg her lead was just 2 secs, but with a superb display of power riding by the end of the bike Batkin was in complete control with a lead of 40secs, but even with a comfortable cushion Batkin didn't let up and posted the quickest run time for the final 800m for a complete performance to seal the victory. This is a real confidence boost at the start of the track season and with the 8 event East Midlands junior triathlon season ahead the for the 14-year-old.
