Harriers in action at open meetings

Athletes from both the sprint squad & the Middle distance squad put in credible performances as they competed in open meetings over the weekend, and at the Wednesday Watford open

Sprinters Erin Healy, Alex Beale, and Annabelle Clotworthy, all under 15, competed in Birmingham in the Birchfield Harriers Young Athletes Open. Conditions weren't ideal for sprinting, but they all managed to record personal bests on the day.

Erin, currently seeking a qualifying time for the English Schools Championships, finished 4th in her 100m race in a personal best, automatic timing of 12.84 seconds. The wind speed was however slightly over the allowed limit, so it will be classed as a wind assisted run. In her 200m race, she finished 4th in a time of 27.08.

Alex Beale lowered her personal best in the 100m to 13.80 seconds, when she finished 3rd in her race. She followed this up with a time of 28.60 in the 200m. Annabelle Clotworthy recorded two personal bests on the day, finishing 1st in her 100m race in 13.77 seconds, and 4th in the 200m in a time of 29.56.

Ellen Smith competed in the U15 100m at the Rugby & Northampton Spring Open on the same day. She finished 1st in her race in a personal best of 14.08 seconds

A the Watford open meeting, a favourite of the middle distance squad, Fynn Batkin was the sole KTH representation and he opened his 3k track season with a terrific new PB by over a minute, finishing in a superb time 9:18.76, a fantastic start to a season where he needs to dip below 9:00 to secure an English Schools qualification time.

Well done to all the athletes, next on the radar is the Kettering Open on 30th April, which will be a chance for many of the youngsters to open their track season account.
