Harriers in good form at Peterborough

With the start of the annual Peterborough 5k & 3k grand prix series, a small number of Harriers were in action in the opening race.

First off in the Junior 3k race was sole KTH Jack Hope, who was runner up in series for the previous two years. Jack and NVH's James McCrae quickly established a large lead from the remaining field, and battled throughout the race, with James proving stronger in closing stages to finish in 10.06, but Jack finished an excellent 2nd place with 10.22 and should find he improves during the series.

Next it was the turn of the 5k runners, and a number of Harriers were competing over the longer distance for the first time. Kayli Walford who was the outright winner of the 3k series in 2010, got off to a great start and with her first full 5k road race completing the course in a very respectable 21.16, and finishing the top U17 & U20 in 117th position in a field of over 280. In the same age group Liam Kirk showed great form by finishing in an excellent 29th overall in 17.55, again finishing the top U17. He was supported by Liam Smith making his debut over the distance who finished a very respectable 100th in 20.35 and third in the U17 category. Also competing for the Harriers Shane Smith 113th in 21.08, and Danielle Smith 187th in 24.01.

There should be a few more Harriers competing in the 2nd round on 22nd June in Eye.
