Heart of England match 1 Kettering

The opening leg of the Heart of England League fixture (Div 2) held at Kettering saw the Harriers put in a terrific performance to finish a close 2nd behind local rivals Rugby & Northampton, relegated from division 1 in 2018, with Wreak in third position.

From the various squads the Sprint Squad put in some strong performances on the day, with two more athletes achieving the English Schools Entry Standard, one new club record set, and one club record equalled.

Leading the way were U17’s, Joe Bradley and Logan Reid who both won their races. Joe ran a personal best of 22.5 seconds in the 200m to equal the club record that was set in June, 2003. His time was also inside the English Schools Entry Standard. Meanwhile, Logan won his race in 11.3 seconds, his 5th win over this distance so far this season. Also winning his race and setting a new personal best was Cole Sinnott who has put together a creditable series of runs so far this season. The 3 athletes joined forces with Max Mowforth at the end of the day in the 4 x 100 relay and ran a time of 45.8 seconds to smash the club record that had also been set in 2003.

U15 boys, Dawud Forbes and Daniel Short both ran personal bests in both of their races. Dawud ran 12.5 seconds and finished 4th in the 100m, and ran 25.4 seconds and finished 2nd in the 200m. Daniel finished 3rd in the 100m in 13.1 seconds, and 2nd in the 200 in 26.4 seconds. William Robertson and Dion Martin also both ran well in the U13 age group. William won his 100m race in a time of 13.7 seconds, and followed this up with a new personal best of 28.0 seconds to finish 2nd in the 200m. Dion equalled his personal best in the 100m in a time of 14.8 seconds, and finished 3rd. Kettering also won both of the 4 x 100m relays in both of these age groups.

In the girls races, Cynthia Ike, U17, ran a personal best of 12.4 seconds to win her 100m race, and finished 2nd in the 200m to equal her personal best of 26.0 seconds. Her time in the 100m was inside the English Schools Entry Standard. Also in this age group, Natalie Short won her 100m and 200m races in a time of 13.4 seconds and 27.6 seconds with the latter being a new PB. Both girls then joined up with Matilda Braithwaite and Annabelle Udo to win their 4 x 100m relay in a time of 53.7 seconds.

Personal bests were also produced by U15 girls Jasmine Anderson and Scarlett Maxwell-Munns in their 200m races - 28.7 seconds and 28.8 respectively. U13 girl, Georgia Coker-Agar, finished 3rd in both of her races, equalling her personal bests in 14.5 seconds and 29.5 seconds. Lulu Mowforth finished 2nd in her 100m race in a time of 15.0 seconds.

Multi eventers from the squad, all in the U17 age group, put in some fine performances. Jack Abbott won the shot with a throw of 9.50 metres, and in his debut in the discus, threw 15.39 metres. Annabelle Udo finished 3rd in the long jump and shot with personal bests of 4.54 metres in the long jump, and 8.96 metres in the shot. Matilda Braithwaite finished 3rd in both of her events, with a throw of 8.36 metres in the shot, and 19.22 metres in the discus. Both girls also competed in the high jump in which they both finished 3rd with jumps of 1.40 metres.

For the Middle Distance Squad the standout performance of the day was a terrific run from Jemima Davey in the U11 600m, winning by almost 10 seconds Davey set yet another PB and smashed her own club record with 1:51.7 to move to 7th in the UK rankings.

In the 800m U13 Dylan White enjoyed an outstanding race to win the race in style in 2:26.6, with U15’s Ben Brooker & Lucas Rogers both scored good points finishing 2nd in the A & B races respectively, and both then went on to finish well up in the 300m, with Brooker setting a PB for 2nd place in the A race (40.3) and Rogers also setting a PB with 45.9 in the B race.

The longer sprints also provided good points with U17 Dylan Bowley & U15 Alice Bennett both racing for speed training and both finishing in fine 2nd places, Bowley with a SB 53.7, and Bennett back from a week’s holiday running just outside her best in 43.7. In the B string for the U17 400m, Josh Geddes also finished in 2nd place with 56.9

There were also good performances from U17 Ryan Raulia in his first 800m of the season, setting a new PB of 2:20, and in the 1500m Rio Carr ran a fine race to win the U15B race in 4:44.5, with George Separovic finishing 2nd in the B race. Josh Clutton set a New PB in the U17 men’s race with 4:36.8, and Luke Cole running up an age group ran a fine race in the B string to finish in 1st place in 4:39.8.
