Heart of England match report - Redditch

The second match in the Heart of England league saw the Harriers put in a superb team display to win the overall match, with 541 points ahead of Worcester (513 points) in second place and local rivals R&N who could only finish in 5th (445 points). His performance was no doubt bolstered by the cancellation of the Midland League due to have taken place on the same day, but was still impressive particularly as many of the younger athletes had competed the day before in the Mason trophy.

For the middle distance squad there were some terrific performances with U11 Jemima Davey running up an age group running a brilliant 800m for 2nd place to smash her own club record by over 4 seconds with 2:37.2 to head to No2 in the UK rankings for U11. Also competing in the 800m were Iday Jumbe who ran a new PB to finish 2nd in the U17 race with 2:07.1, with Ryan Raulia slicing over 5 seconds from his best also finishing 2nd in the U17 B race in 2:14.9 matched by Ben Brooker in the U15 race who also finished in 2nd place in 2:14.0. Alice Bates also had a rare outing over 800m for 3rd place in 2:26.3.

In the 1500m there were also some great performances with a comfortable win from U13 Jacob Asher-Relf with 4:46.4, and a fine double win in the U17/U20 1500m with Josh cannel looking impressive in the 1500m A race to set a new PB of 4:22.1 & Jack Watson winning the B race in 4:44.9. Freya Batkin finished in 2nd place in the U17 race in 5:15.1, with Maggie Gancheva & Niamh Sinnott both finishing 6th in their U13/U15 races.

Josh Cannell fine win in the U17/U20 1500m and a new PB

In the longer sprints there were a U15 double with Adam Jawad winning impressively in the A race in 40.4 & Ben Brooker running well after a busy weekend to win the B race in 42.0. In the 400m Josh Geddess finished second in the U17 A race in a new PB of 55.2 and U17 Jack Althorpe made a great return to competing, setting a personal best of 58.9 seconds in the B 400m.

For the Sprint squad there were more great performances despite being challenged by headwinds.

Claiming 2 club records on the day was U13 Boy, William Robertson. He opened the day with a winning run over 100m to equal his personal best of 13.5 seconds. Later, he jumped a new personal best and club record of 4.87 metres in the long jump. The record had stood since 2004. His 3rd event of the day was the 200m in which he finished 2nd in a time of 28.2 seconds. He then anchored the U13 Boys 4 x 100m relay team to win their race in a new club record of 55.0 seconds. The previous record had stood 2013.

The U17 Boys also won their 4 x 100m relay to lower their record set earlier this season, they, however, had to settle for 2nd place on this occasion. Other outstanding performances in this age group came from Logan Reid in the 100m, which he won in a time of 11.5 seconds, and Joe Bradley in the 200m in which he finished 2nd in a time of 23.0 seconds. Both athletes had competed the previous day in the Mason Trophy in Birmingham and their performances showed that they are posting some consistently strong runs together. U17 Girl, Cynthia Ike, had also competed in the same competition the day before and won her 100m race in a time of 12.7 seconds.

U13 Boys 4 x 100m relay team in a new club record of 55.0 seconds

4 x 100m relay wins were also achieved by the U13 Girls and U15 Boys in times of 59.1 seconds and 50.5 respectively. U20, Lewis-Morgan Barton jumped a personal best of 1.75 metres in the high jump. Personal bests were also achieved by Scarlett Maxwell-Munns & Sonal Rathod in the U15 Girls long Jump with leaps of 4.04 metres and 3.83 metres respectively.
