Josh in nick of time for club record

Josh Cara broke the club Under 15 3000m record when competing in his first ever track 3k race at the Watford Graded meeting. In an exceptionally large field of 32 athletes, four KT Harriers were competing (Josh Cara/ Jack Hope/ Kayli Walford/ Gemma Vaughan), and all got of to a slow but safe start. Josh who had just returned from his 2 week summer holiday confirmed he had maintained hard training throughout by running strongly from the start. Closely followed throughout the race by Jack he soon got into his running after 2 laps and ran a superb race in the mid pack, pushing hard all the way to the line he finished in 9.55.6 just 0.3 seconds faster than the club record held since 2005 by Jonny Goringe. Jack, also competing in his first track 3k, also ran superbly to record a sub 10.00 clocking of 9.59.8. Both go into the Midland Counties 3k championships in 9 days in possible medal contention? Gemma Vaughan who was somewhat isolated during the race also ran well to record a new PB of 11.55.4. Kayli unfortunately withdrew due to stomach cramp.

Jonny Goringe was watching Josh take his record from the trackside, having earlier run a 1500m, looking to clock a sub 4.00 minute time. Running well he was agonisingly close with 4.00.8, but will find consolation with a new PB. Tabatha Walford also ran well to record a new PB clocking 5.27.8, with Izzy Cara recording 4.56.5.

Well done to all.
