Midland League Final Round

The final Midland League meeting of the season saw the athletes putting in some fabulous performances.

 

The men’s team’s main opposition came from the host club who won all of the men’s 100m races.  Cole Sinnott stepped down to the shorter sprints at this meeting.  Competing in the A race, he finished 2nd to Abingdon’s Luke Lorenzi in 11.4 seconds, to Lorenzi’s winning time of 11.2 seconds.  Elijah Lawson’s return to competing  saw him finish 2nd in the B race in 11.6 seconds. Also finishing 2nd in the C race was Zorhann Giraud in 11.6 seconds. 



Some of the athletes also competed in non scoring races on the day.  The fastest of these was William Rawcliffe, who was competing in his first race of the season, due to an injury that had curtailed the majority of his training.  His time of 11.7 seconds was a personal best.  Neng Yang also ran a 12.5 PB in his race, while Tanaka Maposa and Caleb Corstin recorded times of 12.5 and 13.4 respectively.



Abingdon were held at bay in the women’s races.  Harriet Cleaver won her race in 12.6 seconds, a season’s best.  While Abina Funy Soares da Gama and Culley Cleaver both also won their races in times of 13.2 and 13.7 second’s respectively.  Non scorers, Holly Abbott and Sonal Rathod both recorded times of 14.0 seconds in their races, while Abigail Akinyemi-West finished in 14.1 seconds.



The men turned the tables on Abingdon in the 200m races, with all of the scoring races won by our athletes.  Lewis-Morgan Barton, in his first race since July, recorded a time of 22.5 seconds in the A race, while Cole Sinnott was awarded a time of 22.9 seconds in the B race.  Zorhann Giraud, running in the C race, finished in a time of 23.7 seconds.  In the non scoring races, William Rawcliffe equalled his PB with a time of 23.6 seconds, and Elijah Lawson and Neng Yang recorded times of 23.5 and 25.2 respectively.  Neng’s time was once again a PB.



The women completed sprint doubles by winning all of the scoring races again.  Harriet Cleaver, in the A race, was awarded a time of 26.1 seconds, while Abina Funy Soares da Gama ran 27.8 seconds.  Culley Cleaver was the final athlete to run, recording a time of 28.3 seconds.  Non scorers Abigail Akinyemi-West, Sonal Rathod, and Holly Abbott recorded times of 28.2, 29.0, and 29.1 seconds.



Lewis-Morgan Barton also competed in the long jump on the day, winning with ease with a jump of 6.23 metres.  In the women’s long jump, Tallulah Dring leapt to a personal best of 4.46 metres to finish 6th in the A stream, while Abigail Akinyemi-West, in the B, also jumped a PB of 3.64 metres.  Tallulah also competed in the high jump, in which she finished 2nd with a jump of 1.40 metres.



The men’s relay team of Elijah Lawson, Cole Sinnott, Zorhann Giraud, and Lewis-Morgan-Barton weren’t able to hold off the Abingdon team, finished a magnificent 2nd to set a new club record of 43.80 seconds.  The men’s B team of Caleb Corstin, Tanaka Maposa, William Rawcliffe, and Neng Yang finished 3rd in 48.2 seconds.  The women’s team of Holly Abbott, Abina Funy Soares da Gama, Culley and Harriet Cleaver were totally untroubled in their race, winning in 52.6 seconds.



The day ended with a blended team making their debut in the 4 x 400m mixed relay.  Comprising of Lewis-Morgan Barton, Sonal Rathod, Holly Abbott, and Cole Sinnott, they set a club record of 4.11.3 seconds.  A huge congratulations to them all, but especially to the women who only volunteered to compete over that distance on the day, a testament to the strong team spirit within the squad.
