Achim Loibl and Emmanuel Mbu both competed in the Midland U20 Championships on Sunday. In a total contrast to last year’s meeting that saw gale force winds assisting the sprint runs, this year the athletes were faced with headwinds affecting their runs. Both athletes finished 6th in their 100m races, with Achim running 11.87 seconds into a -1.0 headwind. Emmanuel was fortunate enough to have a favourable wind of +0.2 in his race, recording a time of 11.56 seconds.
In their 200m races, Emmanuel finished 3rd in his heat in a time of 23.44 seconds, running into a -1.8 headwind. His time ensured that he qualified for the final as a fastest loser. He went on to finish 7th in the final in the same time that he’d run in his heat. Meanwhile Achim once again finished 6th in a time of 23.84 seconds, running into a headwind of -2.5.
