Athletes from the sprint squad travelled to Nuneaton for the Midland U20/Senior Championships on 28th and 29th June. There were some great performances in challenging weather conditions.
Lewis-Morgan Barton opted to only compete in the 100m this season at the event after picking up a hamstring strain after the County Championships the previous month. In his heat of the Senior Men’s race, he finished 3rd in 11.09w seconds to GB international Joel Masters, who won the race in 10.72w seconds, with Baron Opoku of Telford Athletics Club clinching 2nd place in 11.04w seconds. Masters went on to win the final in 10.51w, with Lewis-Morgan picking up a well deserved bronze medal in 10.93w seconds.

Also competing in the Senior age group were Harriet Cleaver and Holly Abbott. in the 100m and 200m. Both athletes were drawn in heat 2 for the 100m with Harriet finishing 4th in 12.79w, and Holly finishing 5th in 13.74w. Those performances saw Harriet progress through to the final, but unfortunately Holly didn’t qualify. In the final, Harriet ran 12.70w to finish in 7th place. In the 200m, they were seeded in separate races, with Harriet in heat 1, and Holly in heat 2. Both athletes ran season best times, 28.71w for Holly for 5th place, and 26.77 for Harriet, finishing 3rd, to see her once again qualify for the final. She ran another strong race in the final, finishing 7th in 26.84w.
Charlotte Rainbow picked up a bronze medal in the Senior Women’s 400m with a run of 65.58 seconds. The weather conditions weren’t ideal for running a 400m, as it was a very blustery day, making her achievement more creditable.
