Mildand League Round 2 Report

Harriers Finish 3rd at a Sweltering Midland League

In the midst of a heat wave the Harriers pulled out all the stops and managed to finish a credible third leaving them just off third in the league table overall at the Midland League in Corby.
There were many credible performances throughout the day with 3 Club Records being set and an English Schools Qualification Time being met. The English Schools time, and two of the records, came from Niamh Bailey who ran a Personal Best of 25.6 in the womens 200m which she won by 0.7 seconds! She also achieved a club record in the 100m Hurdles where she recorded a personal best time of 16.0 improving by 3.1 seconds! She also finished 2nd in the High Jump and 3rd in the Long Jump. The third Club Record came from the rapidly improving Daisy Gilbert who increased her own U17 womens Hammer Record by over 4m to 30.53m, which is just over 3m away from English Schools Qualifying! She also had a Personal Best in the Javelin of 21.73m. Capping of a good day for her, she came 3rd in the womens ‘A’ Shot.
The experienced Mills brothers were out in force as usual recording 30 valuable points between them to help the club achieve their best result so far. Other dedicated athletes helping the Club achieve this were Matthew Peleszok, Matthew Wright, Gemma Elliot, Isaura Collyer, Bronwynne Smit and Katy Williams, with Katy equalling her Personal Best on 14.3 in the 100m. Another key individual to the success was Tom Carvell who ran a Personal Best of 11.8 in the 100m and jumped a personal best of 10.58m in the Triple Jump. He also had a good run in the 200m.
A handful of the Youth Team also helped the club at this meet, with regulars Bradley Fox and Edward Cherry, with Edward running his fastest 200m, 24.0. But his previous best was set in 2008 when he was 12 years old! Also having a good competition were Lorna Milne and Harriet Sumnall both setting Personal Bests in one event. Lorna jumping 8.67 in the Triple Jump and Harriet throwing 25.40m in the Discus. Courtney Williams also ran a Personal Best of 11.7 in the 100m.
Finally it was nice to see some athletes competing for the first time this year, with new Harrier Jamie Harrison competing in the Long Jump and experience athlete Louise Granger in the Shot and Discus.
The next Midland League match is the 1st of July at Newport. So please try and fill as many places in the team as possible and we look forward to seeing you there.
