More Success in the Veterans League

At match three of the Eastern Veterans Athletics League, both KTH teams performed strongly to once again improve their points tally. With a strong head wind track PB's were difficult to come by but with some resolute performances and a positive team ethic, both the teams were able to cover the majority of events in all the age categories.

The womens team scored an impressive 110 points to consolidate third place in the division and maintain their push for the grand final in September. The outstanding perfomance of the night was from Myrtle Capliss, making her first appearance of the season and competing in the V55 category but giving away ten years on most of the other competitors to score 17 points in the 100m, 400m and 2k walk to finish second only to team captain Amanda Marlow V35 (18 points), an inspirational performance that really captures the ethos of veterans athletics.

Sarah Bailey V45 performed well scoring 13 points in the high jump, hammer and shot while engine room of the team the ever dependable Yvonne Elliott V45 again performed admirably with 12 points in the 100m, long jump and 2k walk. Bronwyn Smit ran well in the 100m and 2k walk for 10 points with Alison Moxey V35 1500m and shot and Kerry Munn V45 who stormed to victory in the 1500m both scoring 8 points.

Helen Keyworth V45 was pipped into second place near the line in a strong 400m field for 7 points with Jill Tierney V35, who earlier in the evening took a knock in the 80m hurdles recovered to run well in the 400m for 4 points. Amanda Marlow top scored with 18 points from the high jump, long jump and with a PB in the hammer.

Both the womens relay teams ran well in a tough 4x400m to get the baton round in second V35 and third V45 respectively, a fine team effort.

For the first time this season the mens team were able to field a complete team in the V40 and V50 categories and offered a glimpse of their true potential with a seasons best points tally of 71 points to move up the division to fifth place. A special mention must go to Rob Britten V40 who competed in the 2k walk and made up a team in the relay to score 6 points despite suffering torn ankle ligaments which required a heavy strapping.
The ever improving Jerry Wise V50 continued his good form with PB's in both the shot and hammer to score 9 points and made his track debut to run a strong leg of the 4x400m relay. Newcomer Steve Peterson V50 scored 10 points in the 2k walk and long jump and looked impressive as a non scorer in the 1500m. Top scorer on the night was team captain Paul Marlow V40 with 13 points from the 400m, long jump and shot while Peter Gorringe V50 also put in another fine performance with 8 points in the 400m and high jump as did Greg Smith V40 7 points in the 100m and high jump, Paul Young V50 for 6 points in the 100m and 1500m and Alastair Moxey V40 with 4 points in the 1500m and hammer. With everyone rallying round to ensure both age groups competed in the relay to cap an excellent achievement by all.
