New club record at midland champs

This weekend (22nd/23rd June) saw the U20 Midland Championships taking place at the Alexander Stadium Birmingham. The event was attended by Lewis Hayes, TomCarvell and Ed Cherry all hoping for some fast races over their respective distances. In difficult conditions, the performances are all the more credible.

After a last minute change from the 1500m to the 800m Lewis hoped to capitalise on the fast pace athletes in the race in only his second ever 800m.  It was evident from the go that it was going to be a fast paced race with the 400m split being recorded at 56.4, but Lewis dug in deep to finish in a New Club Record and Personal Best time of 1:56.62. This provided him with his first major championship medal, a silver in a very strong race. With this only being his second ever 800m he looks to hopefully better this record with two more years in the age group.

Tom Carvell looked to improve upon his recent PB performance in the 100m, going in the second heat on the 100m, Tom ran a well executed race to finish fourth in a time of 11.97(-1.0) securing a place in the final. In the final Tom ran marginally faster with 11.95(-0.3) to finish 7th giving him a new electronic 100m PB. Ed Cherry was also looking for a fast race after running a PB at the Midland League match. Going in the second heat of the 400m, Ed finished 5th in his heat, just missing out on a place in the final, in a time of 51.49 which is a electronic PB for him.

Look out for an update later this week on the combined champs where further records fell....
