Niamh takes English bronze combined medal

On a bank holiday weekend, the cream of domestic combined eventers descended on Bedford for the uk champs. Harriers own niamh bailey returned back hoping to improve from last years 5th place.

First up was the 100m hurdles and running into an 0.8m headwind, niamh set a new club record of 15.33s leaving her in 9th. A season best of 1.60m in the high jump moved her into 7th place after 2 events. In difficult conditions, a shot of 9.28m was a metre below her club record but kept her in 7th . A very good first day was completed by a fast 2nd place in the 200m where running into a 0.5m headwind, niamh finished with 25.41s, her fastest electronic time and 1/100th outside her record. Niamh finished the first day in 4th place just 9 points behind 3rd.

The second day saw her continue the good progress with a 3rd place in the long jump of 5.34m which moved her up to 3rd place. In her least favourite event, the javelin, niamh finished just outside her season best but this moved her up into 2nd place with just the 800m and 50 points separating the 2nd-5th places. Niamh managed a PB of 2.29.89 ensuring she finished with a club record 4575 points, midland champ and brone medallist in both the u20 England and bucs combined events.

Well done niamh
