The Harriers Middle Distance Squad had some good early season performances at the regional BMC meeting held on Wednesday 8th May & the new local PB Classic held at Corby on 11th May.
Ethan Mehmet set a new lifetime best with a superbly paced run to finish 2nd in his heat and record 2:18.33, in the same Heat Fran Ashworth ran a much improved race to record a seasons best with 2:23.74, but Matt Stewart fell victim to a brutally fast pace in his heat and paid the price for a 27 second 1st 200m, but still managed to hold on well to set a SB of 2:03.9.
At the Corby AC hosted BMC PB Classic there were some encouraging performances on a cool evening, the best of which saw Lewis Hayes record a superb new PB of 4:16.91 to slice nearly 6 seconds from the debut race at the distance at the recent KTH open meeting, Liam Kirk also ran a Superb new PB in his now preferred 800m distance to win the men’s B race in style and slice nearly 3 seconds from his previous best with 2:03.07.
Also in action in the 800m was the Gordon sisters, Beth & Jess, with Jess reversing the position from the open meeting to beat her younger sister and finish strongly in 2nd place in the mixed E race with a SB of 2:22.73, Beth also finishing strongly was rewarded with another PB by slicing over a second from her previous best set at the open meeting with 2:25.24.
Gemma Vaughan also ran well in the 1500m C race to record a new SB of 5:21.67, and with a sudden change to cold and blustery conditions before the final 3km race Jack Hope also ran well despite running the opening km too fast to record 9:42.69.
12 Athletes from the squad will now look forward to the traditional BMC PB Classic held in Milton Keynes this Saturday in the hope of some fast times.
