Road runners 5th in the Banbury 5

Seven Harriers made the long Tuesday night trip to Banbury for the next round of the East Midlands Grand Prix, a 5 mile road race around undulating lanes to the south of the Oxfordshire town.

Following on from a good performance in the last round at Corby, Kettering were again amongst the leading clubs, finishing 5th of the 19 men's teams.

Both David Green (27:36) and Jonny Goringe (28:00) felt their runs were below par but they both finished in the top ten of a field of over 330. Phil West was 24th in 29:02 and Kemal Mehmet took 75th place in just under 32 minutes. Incidentally, Kemal really did compete at Banbury; he somehow appeared in the Corby results despite not taking part!

Also appearing in the red and white hoops was Simon Ruegg was full of energy in the final mile and thought he could have gone faster than 34:57. Peter Goringe (36:21) and Anthony Poncia (36:36) kept each other company in midfield, exchanging places on several occasions.

The next round of the series is the Harborough 5 on Tuesday 14th June.
