Royal Marines beckon for Hayes Twins

Kettering Town Harriers are Very Sad to be losing the talented Lewis & Jed Hayes as they prepares to join the Royal Marines, Lewis on Monday 08.09 and Jed a few weeks later. Many would have seen a taster of what await Lewis & Jed in the channel 4 documentary series – Royal Marines Commando School, in their basic 32 weeks training where they will be moulded into men and become part of one of the world’s best elite fighting forces finally earning one of the world renowned “green Beret’s”. Certainly their level of fitness while training & competing for Kettering Town Harriers will assist them during their basic training!

Lewis made an instant impact since joining the club just under two years ago, and set a succession of superb new Club Records for U20 Men for both 800m & 400m, as well as winning two Silver Midland Counties Medals and making English Schools Championships. Jed who joined a year later than Lewis had a slightly faltering start to this year’s track season with a few niggles, but showed given more time he could have perhaps followed in his twins footsteps with his first few 800m races where he posted a succession of sub 2:00 clocking’s.

We can only dare to dream what Lewis & Jed may have achieved if he had another year or two in training, but hopefully they will resurrect his athletics career after basic training has been completed, and we hope they both continue to represent the Club in the red & White hooped vest of Kettering Town Harriers going forward!

Lewis & Jed were very well liked by all who met them & they made many good friends within the club, and were both genuine all round nice guys and an inspiration for many of the athletes in the middle distance squad, young and old alike!

We all wish them both the very best of luck and hope they enjoy their new career in becoming an elite Royal Marine....we are all immensely proud that two of KTH’s own are becoming Royal Marines. Some of the squad gave Lewis & Jed a send-off following Lewis’s last track session on Thursday, picture below
