MIDLAND U20/U23 CHAMPIONSHIPS
There were mixed fortunes at the Midland U20/U23 Championships for the athletes in the sprint squad. On the Saturday, the women competed in the 100m while the men competed in the 200m.
Cynthia Ike was the only U20 woman competing on the day. She ran a strong 100m to finish 2nd in her heat in a time of 12.90 seconds. In the final, however, she was restricted by a tight hamstring, and unfortunately finished in 7th in 12.91 seconds.
The men competing in the 200m were Cole Sinnott and Jack Abbott. Cole was the first to compete on the day, and just missed out on making the final in a close run race with George Baker of City Of Stoke who ran 22.51w and finished 3rd, while Cole ran 22.52w and finished 4th. With a legal wind speed behind him, Jack Abbott ran a respectable PB of 24.52 in his heat in which he finished 7th.
On the Sunday, the men competing in the 100m were Max Mowforth, Jack Abbott, and Logan Reid. In heat 1, Logan got his usual fast start and ran a close race with Muslim Habib of Birchfield Harriers. He finished 2nd to qualify for the final in a new PB of 10.95 seconds, however, he was unable to compete in the final after straining his hamstring.

Max and Jack both competed in heat 3. Max, who has been running well this season after being hampered by injuries for a few seasons, ran a PB of 11.57 seconds to finish 5th. Meanwhile, Jack ran a season’s best of 12.02 seconds, and finished 7th. His performance indicates that he looks likely to break 12 seconds this season.

Multi eventer, Annabelle Udo, picked up the silver medal in the U20 women’s shot with a throw of 7.92 metres. The event was won by Birchfield Harrier, Rhiana Burrell with a throw of 11.01 metres. Annabelle ended her day with a run in the 200m in which she finished 6th in a time of 28.75 seconds.

KETTERING OPEN MEETING 15th JUNE
Warm conditions helped the sprinters to produce some great performances, with the majority of the athletes running personal bests in their races. Also competing on the night was Paralympian, 100m & 200m world record holder, Sophie Hahn, of Charnwood AC who competed in the 100m which she won in a time of 12.73 seconds.
In the U13 age group, Zane Cooper continued to impress, setting new PBs’ of 13.11 and 27.51 in his 100m and 200m races. Also, making improvements was the youngest member of the squad, Lionnel Karolcik, who ran a PB of 15.04 in the 100m.

Athletes in the U15 age group ran strong races, with William Rawcliffe doing the double by winning his 100m race in a PB of 12.62 seconds, and 200m in 25.59 seconds. William Robertson won his 200m race in a time of 25.92 seconds, and finished 4th in his 100m in 12.53 seconds. Elizabeth Reading, in her 2nd 100m race of the season, finished 3rd in a PB of 13.48 seconds.

The U17 age group saw a fast improving Ryan Amesimeku lower his 100m PB to 11.16 seconds, and achieving the English Schools qualifying time in the process. Another impressive performance in this age group came from Joshua Wenje who ran a PB of 11.94 seconds in the 100m to finish 4th, and another PB of 24.91 seconds in the 200m to finish 4th once again.

Jasmine Anderson and Harriet Cleaver both also ran well in this age group. Jasmine ran a PB of 13.10 seconds in the 100m to finish 4th, while Harriet ran a wind assisted time of 12.63 seconds to finish 5th, before finishing 3rd in the 200m in a PB of 26.70 seconds.

The U20 athletes were involved in some of the most exciting races on the night. Max Mowforth competed in the 100m and won his race in a PB of 11.40 seconds. While Cole Sinnott also ran a PB of 11.41 seconds to finish 3rd in the 100m, before running yet another PB of 22.84 seconds in the 200m, finishing 6th.
