A huge congratulations to our Throws Squad who represented the club with pride, skill, and determination at this year’s Northamptonshire County Championships at Corby Athletic Stadium. With a mix of medals, personal bests, debut performances, and technical progression across all age groups, it was a fantastic weekend of athletics.
U23 Squad
Coach and athlete Jack Abbott led by example, securing double gold with 1st place finishes in the Shot Put (9.55m) and Discus (22.99m).

Annabelle Udo, juggling competition with her university finals, delivered an impressive 2nd place in Shot (10.31m) — a testament to her resilience and focus.
Holly Abbott showed her hard work is paying off, finishing 4th in Shot (6.35m) and taking gold in Discus with 19.59m — a 3-metre improvement on last season, reflecting excellent technical progress.
U17 Squad
Tiaan Claassens, in his first season with the heavier 5kg shot, placed 3rd with 10.43m in a strong field — a solid early marker as he adjusts to the increased weight.

George Mills debuted the new specification 700g javelin, taking 1st place with a throw of 46.41m. While in comparison to others distances across the UK this will appear reduced due to the new spec, George’s ranking is already at UK No. 31 and climbing.

U15
Matilda Abbott had a busy and brilliant weekend. Alongside competing, she supported her injured training partner Lucie (get well soon!). Matilda placed 2nd in Shot and took 1st place in both Discus (20.45m) and Hammer (23.74m) — a remarkable debut performance in Hammer after just three training sessions.
Fine championship for Matilda Abbott with three medals, and a double Gold

U13
Helene Claassens made her County Championships debut in style, securing 2nd place in Shot (6.35m). Her composure in the circle and technical control stood out in a confident first outing.

Coach’s Reflection
“As the season gets underway, it's not just about distances — it's about the foundations we’re laying. I’ve had multiple bystanders comment on the squad’s excellent technique, and that’s where future progress lies. With continued training and commitment, the distances will come. Well done, Team Throws — you’ve done yourselves and your club proud.”
Well done to all athletes.
