Tony James European Masters Adventure

Best of luck to Kettering Town Harriers Tony James who is flying the flag for the Harriers competing over 800m for GB in the European Masters Athletics Championships in the vet 45-50 category in Denmark. With his heat in Thursday 03rd August, and only the first two are guaranteed through to Saturdays final Tony will most likely need to set a PB to ensure he stands a chance progressing?

Tony who is training with the talented youngster’s from the Kettering Town Harriers Middle Distance squad under the guidance of Coach Shane Smith, has seen his 800m time improve by an incredible 13 seconds this season, and he has broken the vet 40-50 club record no less than 5 times on the way to his current PB of 2:09.21, and has been in great form in the vet league over both 400m & 800m.

Coach Smith was full of praise for Tony who has embraced the hard track based sessions he sets “Tony has been a breath of fresh air and has totally immersed himself into the predominantly young squad which has athletes from 10-25.” He added “He works very hard in training and has seen the rewards with improving times, and I think he is a great role model for the younger squad members showing that hard work bring success no matter what age you are.”

Tony is travelling across to the host city of Aarhus, Denmark’s second city and the European capital of culture 2017 in the north of Denmark with his family, and it’s sure to be an enjoyable trip with over 3800 athletes entered in the competition which runs from 26th July to 06th August.
