Triple gold for KTH in County 3000

There were three gold medals for Harriers athletes in the County 3000m championships held at Corby. Two races were held - a male and a female - in which all of the age groups competed.

The female race was a thrilling affair, which was won by 13 year old Kayli Walford. Kayli was part of a group of three athletes (the other two were from Corby) who gradually closed the gap on R&N's Sarah Bennett, who had built up a big lead. After overtaking Bennett with 200m to go, the three girls had a frantic sprint finish, in which Kayli just came out on top. This was a superb achievement for someone running her first race over the distance.

In the men's race, Jonathan Goringe was second to senior champion Stuart Nelson and in so doing took the Under 20 gold for the third successive year; in fact, it was his sixth win in a row in his age group. Next year he becomes a senior and it will he harder to keep the run going. Jake Waples was second under-20; with a huge PB he saw off arch-rival Rory Grant. Dave Edwards, who was fifth, also recorded a PB. Further down the field, Matt Stewart added to his collection of county golds, taking the Under 17 title.

In other events held at Corby on the same evening, Bradley Fox (200m), Tabatha Walford (800m) and Maisie Green (800m) all recorded impressive PBs.
