U15/U17 England Championships

The U15/U17 England Championships is the final major meeting of the season for athletes in these age groups. To compete in the event, which is held over two days, athletes have to achieve qualifying times prior to entering. Sprinters Erin Healy & Cynthia Ike both achieved the required standard and were able to represent the Harriers in what was a quality meeting.

Cynthia competed in the U15 girls age group over distances of 100m & 200m. On Saturday, she competed in the 100m finishing 3rd in her heat in a new personal best of 12.80 to qualify for the semi final later that day. In the semi final, she managed to lower her personal best again to 12.78 but missed out on making the final as she finished 6th. She returned the next day to compete in the 200m and ran a time of 26.3 to finish in 6th position in her heat.

Erin, competing in this meeting for the third year, competed in the U17 girls 200m on Sunday. Running from lane 4, in the 2nd heat, she finished in a time of 26.00 in 4th position. The winner of her race, Kia Dubarry-Gay went on to finish 2nd in the final, behind Amber Anning, of Brighton & Hove, who recently won a bronze medal in the 400m at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas.

U17 Erin Healy & U15 Cynthia Ike both performed well for the Harriers.

Coach, Ann Inniss-Haycox said "Both girls gave maximum effort at this championships & represented the squad & Harriers very well. I'm sure they will continue to make good progress at this event each season. It brings to a close a very successful season for the squad & I'm very proud of all of my athletes for they way that they have performed this year."
