University challenge

It was a busy weekend for some of Harriers who are in their first year of University, with Claudia kelsall in action in the Chilly 10k at castle Coombe, and Francesca Ashworth in action at the BUCS indoor championships at the Sheffield indoor arena.

Claudia who is studying Maths at Bath ran a superb race and was the first girl home in the 9BAR Chilly 10 k race held on the Castle Coombe racecourse, recording a fine new PB of 40:16 competing for the Bath University Tri team.

Fran who is studying politics at King’s College was experiencing her first major indoor championships at the English Institute for sport/ Sheffield indoor area at 800m, and eased through the heats held on the Friday with a solid run to finish second place with 2:22.12 and qualify in 8th of the 12 fastest losers.

On the following day in the Semi-finals she again acquitted herself very well to finish 14th fastest out of 32 in a remarkable identical time of 2:22.12, with just the winner from each of the 3 heats and 3 fasted losers guaranteed a space in the final she sadly did not progress further, but was delighted with her consistency over 2 days on her winter XC training!

Fran Asahworth a remarkable identical time of 2:22.12 in heats & semi-final!

Well done to both girls who seem to be settled in nicely in their new University environment!
