Veterans League opening event

The first Veterans Track and Field event took place at Leamington on Wednesday 29th April.

The ladies team had a couple of missing regulars due to injury and half of the remaining team had run marathons only three days before - it was therefore a challenge to be competitive in some events with tired legs!!

As always Kerry Munn V50 was an asset on the night competing in 100m, 400m, 1500m, high jump and a 200m leg of the relay. Trudi Pike, also recovering from her marathon ran well in the V35 1500m and Alison Moxey returning from a whole track season out last year also ran well in V40 1500m and also took part in the relay.

Jill Tierney was just outside her own club record in the 2k walk and also ran well in the 100m and 400m as well as in the relay. Kathy Coleman did a fine sprint in the 100m and also competed in the high jump as well as in the relay team. Sandra Vaughan competed in the V50 javelin and shot and also made a guest appearance in the 2k walk where she gained a personal best.

Team Manager, Amanda Marlow, had a quiet night, still recovering from her marathon (unable to walk properly let alone run) competed only in the shot put for 2nd place in V40.

The Mens team also had a couple of missing regulars but were joined by new track Athletes Richard Coleman and Michael Salter willing to "have a go" in the Veterans League. Michael performed extremely well in the V35 400m and 1500m (performing down an age group - with the youngsters of the veteran world) and also took part in the relay.

Richard unfortunately pulled his hamstring in his first event 100m but still managed to finish the race! Richard was unable to compete in his other scheduled track events but made a guest appearance in the javelin with a throw of 28m.

Dave Folgate had a brilliant evening with a Club record in the V60 Triple Jump (breaking his own record) with 10.19 for 1st place, also gaining 2nd places in 100m and high jump but also competing in the shot and 1500m - a busy evening. Pete Mills competed in the High Jump and Javelin and broke club records in both events V40 1.55 (High jump) and 37.74. (Javelin).

Graham Pratt ran well in his 100m for 3rd and also took part in the relay and managed to get through uninjured in preparation for his marathon in 4 days time!

Pete Goringe nursing a broken foot could not run but managed to take part in the 2k walk with a respectable time.

Rob Britten also had a busy evening taking part in the 100m, 400m, hammer and the relay as did Paul Young in the 400m, 1500m and relay.

Both Ladies and Mens Teams finished in 5th position out of 8 competing teams which was a good opening match to the season.

The next fixture is on Wednesday 20th May in Leicester. Anyone interested to take part should contact Amanda Marlow before 8th May when selection will take place!!
