Veterans Track and Field Finals

The Veterans Track and Field team travelled in style (by bus) to Worcester for the Finals on Sunday 30th August on a forecast wet day. A brilliant day followed with great team spirit and the team narrowly missing out on victory in the Ladies Team, by only 18 points and the Mens Team finishing in third place. Overall the combined team finished in second place behind the much bigger club of Rugby and Northampton.

The Ladies team desperately need a Vet 60 to score some much needed points to compete with other Clubs and with a couple of Vet 60 men being available for next season, the future looks good for the Veteran Team!

The Ladies Team had only 5 competitors and therefore all athletes had extremely busy days! The Mens Team had 6 athletes but as the Team also had to officiate three field events throughout the day, it was all systems go with tight schedules to keep to, and many athletes competing in three events at the same time!

In the Ladies team positions were as follows:-

Kerry Munn Vet 50 100m, 3000m, 400m and triple jump (all 2nd) and 1st place in the 200m Kathy Coleman Vet 40 shot, high jump, and 2k walk (all 3rd) and 4th in hammer and 100m(Vet 35!) Trudi Pike Vet 35 800m (3rd) and 3000m (2nd) and Vet 40 1500m (3rd) Sandra Vaughan Vet 50 hammer, long jump and 2k walk (all 3rd) Amanda Marlow Vet 35 Javelin (2nd), long jump and Vet 40 triple jump (both 1st), Vet 40 400m (2nd) and Vet 35 200m hurdles (4th)

Both the 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m relay teams consisting of Amanda, Kerry, Trudi and Kathy were victorious!

In the Mens Team positions were as follows:-

Pete Mills Vet 40 Shot, discus and Javelin (all 1st), 200m hurdles, high jump and 200m (all 2nd) Paul Marlow Vet 35 triple jump and Vet 40 long jump (3rd) and 2k walk (2nd) Andy Clawson Vet 40 800m (3rd) and Vet 35 400m (2nd) Peter Goringe Vet 50 1500m (4th) and 2k walk (2nd) Richard Coleman Vet 50 long jump (2nd), javelin (3rd), 100m, 200m and hammer (all 4th) and 800m (5th) Michael Salter Vet 35 100m and 3000m (3rd) and Vet 40 1500m (4th)

The relay team of 4 x 100m consisting or Michael, Paul, Pete and Richard and the 4 x 400m team of Michael, Paul, Andy and Peter both finished in 2nd place. The 4 x 400m team gained a new club record of 4.45.58

New records were also gained by Pete Mills in the Vet 40 High jump (1.65m) and javelin (38.22m)

A great day was had by all and huge congratulations to all who took part in the Finals and to those taking party in the matches leading to the Finals.
