Veteran’s T&F Reports May and June 2018

The Team headed to Nuneaton on Wednesday 16th May for the second fixture of the season.
Victories on the day went to Pete Mills in the Javelin 37.70 and also in the High jump with a new club record of 1.70m (he also did the shot), and also to Tony James in the 800m in 2.12.9. M60 competitor Paul Young competed in the 200m, 3000m and also the Javelin. In the M50 category Richard Coleman did the 200m, and also the long jump and discus. Simon Rowe did the M50 800m and also a leg of the 400m relay. Matthew Watson competed in the 200m and also ran a leg of the 400m relay.

Sean Gallagher did the 2k walk and also the 3000m. Andy Clawson did the 3000m and also a 400m leg of the relay.

The relay team of Tony James, Andy Clawson, Simon Row and Matthew Watson finished 5th in the 4 x 400m relay.

In the Ladies team there were no victories on the day but still some fine performances. Katy Williams ran well for 2nd in the W40 200m in 32.4. Trudi Pike competed in the W35 800m and the 3000m as well as a 400m leg of the relay. Elaine Fairbrother took part in the 200m, 800, made her debut in the 2k walk event and also ran a 400m leg of the relay.
Nicola Speed, was persuaded to take part (!) in the V50 category and ran in the 800m and 3000m, as well as a leg of the 400m relay. Nicola also made her debut in the long jump. Alison Moxey did the triple jump and also ran a leg of the relay.
Kathryn Coleman had her usual busy evening taking part in the 200m, 2k walk, high jump, shot and discus.

On Wednesday 13th June the team headed to Rugby for the third fixture.
There were victories on the day in the Men’s team for Steve Sinnott in the M40 100m 13.1 who also competed in the long jump and also gained a new club record in the pole vault with 2.60m.

In the M60 sole competitor Paul Young did the 100m, 400m and discus. In the M50 category Simon Rowe pulled his leg in the 100m but still bravely competed in the 1500m. Richard Coleman competed in the discus, triple jump (for a pb) and shot.

Nick Breeze joined the Veterans team for the first time and ran down an age group in M35 100m in 13.3 and also ran a strong 200m leg in the medley relay. Sean Gallagher did the 2k walk and also the 1500m.

In the M40 category Andy Clawson ran a great 1500m in 4.58. Tony James suffered a rare defeat in the 400m but in a great time of 56.5.

Tony also ran an awesome 800m leg of the relay and was joined by Andy Clawson running the 400m leg and Nick and Steve running 200m legs. The relay was a highlight of the evening, with the team in first place after the 2 x 200m sprints but with 4 teams in close contention. Andy ran a great leg to hold position in the top four with the lead changing throughout. Tony had the 800m to run - again the lead changed throughout the two laps but with a phenomenal turn of pace Tony moved from 4th to take the victory on the line.

In the Ladies team 2nd places were achieved by Katy Williams 100m W40 15.4 and Kathryn Coleman in the W50 Hammer in 21.30 (a pb). Kathryn also competed in the 100m and discus. Alison Moxey gained a pb in the long jump and also did W35 Hammer. Trudi Pike, competing down an age group ran well in the 400m and 1500m as did Elaine Fairbrother in the same events in the W40.

Babs Poncia made a welcome return to the team following recent injury and ran well in the W50 400m and also ran the 400m leg of the relay. Christi Stewart made her debut to the Veterans team, following her ‘coming of age’ in the 100m and also a 200m leg of the relay to replace Kathy who had suffered a slight injury.

Chrissi (200m) leg and Babs (400m leg) were joined by Katy Williams 200 leg of relay and Elaine Fairbrother who drew the short straw and had to run 800m.
