Vets league report 3rd July

The Veterans Track and Field team headed to Rugby on Wednesday 3rd July on a lovely sunny evening.

The Men’s team finished in 4th position on the night and the Ladies in 6th. Over the first 3 fixtures the Men are sitting in 3rd and the Ladies in 7th with one further match remaining before the finals.

In the Mens Team Steve Sinnott (M50) had a great evening finishing 1st with pbs in 100m in 12.4 and triple jump 10.17, which was also a club record. Steve also finished 2nd in the pole vault 2.40m.

Trevor Herring (M60) ran well in the 100m in 17.3, walked his 2k in 15.15.6 and threw a pb in the discus with 17.63. Mike Herring (m70) ran 20.2 in the 100m and jumped 2.47 in the long jump. Matthew Watson (m40) ran 13.7 in the 100m and 5.52.3 in the 1500m.

Chris Johnson (m35) ran 12.4 in his 100m, quickly followed by his 400m in 59.00. Tony James made a welcome return to Veteran duty with a fine 57.6 in the M40 400m. Dave Folgate tried his hand at pole vault but on this occasion was unable to clear a height. Dave (m60) also ran well in his 400m in 91.2 and jumped 1.25 in the high jump - a decent height in this age category using the scissor technique!

Sean Gallagher who had been working on his walking technique improved his time and finished in 2nd place in the 2k walk in 12.53.7 and quickly recovered to run 5.56.1 in the 1500 (m35). Andy Clawson ran a quick time in his 1500m in 5.08.7. Steve Duke made a long awaited return to the team and came along to compete in the discus, 18.71 and long jump 3.59. Rich Coleman, still nursing a slight injury finished third in the shot with a decent throw of 8.78.

The relay was the medley 2 x 200m Steve and Chris, 400m Andy Clawson and 800m Tony James. The team finished a fine third in 4.10.00

On the Ladies side due to injuries many athletes were rather busy. Elaine Fairbrother had the busiest of nights in 100m 16.8, 400m in 81.1, 1500m in 5.58.9. Elaine also ran an 800m leg in the medley relay! Kathy Coleman (W50) was also kept busy in the 100m 16.8, 2k walk 14.04.4 and the hammer 15.87(W35). Paula Sinnott ran in the 100m 17.5, 400m 98.8 and also the long jump in 2.79. Babs Poncia competed in the 400m in 90.1 and 1500m in 6.47.3 and also ran the 400m leg of the medley relay.

New recruits Christine Henshaw and Jayne Devlin competed well with Christine (W60) running her 100m in 29.5 and 1500m in 11.44.2. Jayne (W70) ran 24.1 in her 100m and managed not to get disqualified in her 2k walk and gained a club record for her efforts in 17.49.9. Lorna Barlow competed in the discus and hammer (W50) with 25.69 for 2nd place.

Joining Elaine's 800m leg and Babs' 400 m leg in the medley relay were Paula and Kathy who both ran a 200m and the team finished in 6.04.5.

Another very enjoyable evening of Veteran athletics. The next fixture is on Wednesday 7th August in Loughborough.
