Yannick's on fire at the Open Meeting

A record turnout of 250 athletes from over 30 clubs descended on the Leisure Village Track on Easter Monday for the Kettering Town Harriers Open Graded Meeting. Despite the warm and breezy conditions, there were some excellent early-season performances from local athletes.

Kettering’s Yannick Phippen was in a class of his own in the sprints, clocking 11.3 for the 100m and a club outdoor record of 22.6 for the 200m, despite having to run into a strong headwind.

Niamh Bailey made all the running in the 300m to equal her personal best of 42.2 and Alex Smit recorded an impressive PB in the 400m (52.7), which offers promise of a good season ahead.

Corby’s Alison Curtis knocked four seconds off her best in the Under 11 600m, finishing ahead of Charlotte Ellis (Harborough AC) who ran 2:03.0 and the home club’s Dannielle Gaskell (2.03.9).

Josh Cara (KTH) made a fine start to his track season, slicing four seconds off his best for 1500m (4:49.5), whilst the Harriers’ Bradley Fox caught the eye in the field events. He added a huge 27cm to his PB in the Long Jump (5.87m).
