Chairmans cup - harriers a v close second

On Sunday 13th July Kettering took on all local Clubs in their genuine attempt to win back The Chairmans cup which over recent years has been won by the much larger club, Rugby and Northampton.

This Cup is an opportunity for the Under 11s and Under 13 athletes only and for many it is their first opportunity of competing for the Club.

Rugby and Northampton brought over 120 athletes in the U11 and U13 Categories.  Kettering were however happy with their 50 athletes on the basis of "quality rather than quantity".   The Club had very high hopes with some very good Athletes in both age groups.

This confidence was proven to be the case with Kettering being the highest scoring team in all track events, 100m, 200m and 800m and also winning three of the four relay races with a second in the other.

Kettering also proved dominant in the high jump in all categories with victories for U13s - Alex Beale and Lewis-Morgan Barton and U11B - Brandon Raulia.

For the under 11s Oliver Laskey was not only the quickest over all others in the 100m but also won the long jump.

Another U11 Ollie Read ran a superb race to win the 800m by some margin.

Other victories on the day were Erin Healy (u13) who has remained dominant all season in the 100m and 200m.  Emily Williams and Henri Codling were also the quickest over the 800m (u13s).

Many other athletes won their respective heats but not all can be named.  Congratulations however to all athletes who competed to the best of their ability and enjoyed themselves in the process with many gaining new personal bests!

Unfortunately Rugby and Northampton proved to be dominant over Kettering in the javelin, howler and long jump.

The final result was the closest in recent years with Rugby and Northampton beating Kettering by 8 points!!  This was disappointing to everyone involved as from the spectators viewpoint it was clearly felt that Kettering had dominated on the track.  Indeed this was proven to be the case in the results, but unfortunately in the field Rugby and Northampton gained sufficient points to gain the smallest of margins for victory.

Well done to all who competed.    A fantastic day was had by all.

Thanks to all the officials and other helpers who assisted in any capacity on the day.

The next events at Kettering are Saturday 26th July - quad kids for u11s and U13s, The Midland Senior League on Saturday 2nd August and the Open meeting on Saturday 16th August.
