Combined events report

Josh Gray travelled to Boston, Lincolnshire on 23rd & 24th May to represent the County Schools in the East Anglian Region Combined Events meeting. The event saw him compete in an Octathlon (8 Events).

On the Saturday, he competed in the long jump, discus, javelin producing personal bests in all three events - 5.91 metres in the long jump, 22.14 in the discus, and 20.19 metres in the javelin. He ended the day debuting in the 400m where he ran a time of 55.6 seconds.

The following day opened with the 100m hurdles in which he finished just outside of his personal best in a time of 15.3 seconds. He then moved on to the high jump where he produced yet another personal best of 1.50 metres. His penultimate event was the shot in which he threw a distance of 7.84 metres, before winding up the weekend with a 1500m run in a time of 5.12.2 seconds.

His overall position in the event was 9th out of 17 Intermediate boy athletes who competed on the day. This was Josh’s first real attempt at multi events, and he is certain to improve in the event next season.

His performances were as a result of the team effort put in by not only his sprint, long jump, & hurdles coach, Ann Inniss-Haycox, but also from the coaching given by Matt Bell (discus), Lorna Barlow (shot), Pete Mills (javelin & high jump), and Canisus Alcindor (high jump).

Well done Josh.
