Emily is flying!

U15 Emily Williams set a new Club Record for the 800m when she sliced over a second from her PB (and existing club Record) in only her third 800m of the season with a superb run at Watford on Wednesday evening, clocking the fastest time for a junior age female on the night. Emily started the 2:11 paced race a little apprehensively but handled it superbly well, hitting the front after 100m, she maintained a prominent position throughout the opening lap, splitting in a swift 65 seconds, and looked strong up to the 600m mark where she kicked with 200m to go with a superb finish taking places all the way to the line to finish in third place and move to 5th in the UK rankings.

With only three races completed this season Coach Shane Smith was delighted with her early season pace, he added “Emily is running with a new found confidence following her successes over the cross country season, which saw her win English Schools National championship, and is now showing real pace over her preferred 800m distance on track, and on this form after a few more races we may have to set her a new season’s target!”.

There we a number of other KTH athletes competing at Watford, and U17 Harriett Jolley in her Watford meeting debut, set her third consecutive PB over 800m slicing nearly 3 seconds from her PB with 2:30.16 with a fine run. U20 Ella Palmer was left frustrated after a difficult race which saw her blocked and bumped on a number of occasions over the two laps, and despite this she still ran a time narrowly outside her SB with a strong finish full of running to record 2:17.98, and will definitely go faster with a better quality race.

Also left frustrated with a slow opening lap of 61 was U17 Jake Trent, who ran a strong second lap to pull back some of the deficit to run his third sub 2:00 race with 1:59.6, and again he will go quicker with a better quality race, U20 Jack Hope fresh from his 2ksc PB a few days earlier ran a rare 800m race to test his early season speed with a respectable 2:00.55.
