Kettering Town Harrier help deliver Playground to Podium

Playground to Podium is a dedicated initiative designed to identify and nurture disabled young people and disabled adults with the potential to be elite athletes.
It comes following a consultation with landscape partners Youth Sport Trust, Paralympics GB , UK Sport and a review of existing programmes and initiatives.
Club coach Matthew Peleszok helped Wellingborough and East Northants School Sports Partnership in their delivery of the selection day. Playground to Podium offers a framework to enhance existing player pathways and provide increased opportunities to achieve at the top end of performance.
The scheme identifies at least 15 young disabled people a year per school sport partnership who demonstrate a high ability in generic skills. They are invited to attend the County Athlete Assessment coordinated by English Federation of Disability Sport and development centres which this year will be at Kettering Athletics Track on the 27th June 2011.
Matthew said "It was great to see so many athletes at our athletics track taking part in the sport we all enjoy. Dispite interuptions from the general public looking to use the booked out facility, Overall 6 athletes were highlighted as potential athletes and will be invited down to the club to develop their athletics"
