Middle Distance successful trip to Govilon

12 athletes from the Middle Distance Squad together with their coach and some volunteer parents recently completed their 2nd winter preparation training camp held in the beautiful surrounding of Govilon, nr Abergavenny in South Wales over the half term holidays Friday 25th - Tuesday 29th. It was 4 days of non-stop competitive action, training & activities comprising of:

7km Orienteering challenge/ 12km Fell run/ Early morning 10-6km runs/ Sand dune hill runs at Europe's largest sand dunes (Merthyr Mawr)/ Indoor rock climbing/ Canoeing/ Two gym sessions/ Volleyball and table tennis, topped off with a group meal and bowling challenge!

Not to be accused of making the most of opportunities, most of the 12 athletes reported for training as usual despite arriving back exhausted at 3.30pm on the Tuesday. Sleep was at a premium, and most will be enjoying the odd lie in during the remaining week to help recover!

Prizes were awarded for all the athletes, with the highest points scorers in each group being - Girls, 1st Abigail Coleman, 2nd Fran Ashworth & 3rd Jess Gordon & Boys 1st Ethan Mehmet, 2nd Liam Kirk & 3rd Jack Hope.

All had a fantastic time in what we hope will become an annual event.

A huge thanks to the staff at the Robert Jeffery Centre for looking after the athletes, and for preparing the huge quantities of delicious food they consumed, to volunteers Cathy Coleman & Lynne Ashworth for their considerable help, and to the KTH committee for their contribution towards the trip.
