Midland Counties U20 Championships

Three of the Harriers Middle Distance Squad were in action in the Midland Counties U20 Championships held at Birmingham Alexander Stadium and some fine performances were achieved.

Fran Ashworth secured a fine Bronze medal in the U20 800m with a spirited run in the straight final and will now look to improve her times in the next few weeks as her A level exams come to a close.

Fran Ashworth Bronze Medal in the U20 800m

Jed Hayes was in action in the 400m to test his speed endurance and set two new PB in a fine display of “Middle Distance” sprinting! Jed cruised to an automatic qualification place in his heats with his first clocking below 51 seconds with a swift 50.97, and returned a few hours later to run a fine race in the final just missing out on the medal positions but again setting an improved PB of 50:50. Jed gained valuable experience in running 400m races, especially with the need to go out harder in the race, and will look to try some further 400's later in the season and try to dip below the magical 50 second barrier and perhaps challenge Twin Lewis’s U20 club record of 49.89?

The last Harrier in action was Jack Hope who was looking for a fast flat 1500 and set a near 2 second PB with 4:09.28 but was slightly disappointed with the steady paced opening two laps. Jack now looks to return to the 2km steeplechase as a guest runner in the southern area league match in a hope to secure the ES qualification mark of 6:08.

Well done to all the athletes.
