Rugby 6 Race Report

15 Harriers turned out for the Rugby 6 on 23rd May. On an undulating course with a long, straight last mile that is a test of stamina and resilience, we hung on for some great team and individual performances.
KTH women came to the fore on the night helped by 2018 debutants: Yvonne and Lauren Mehmet. Lauren won the junior series last year and has now moved to the seniors. They claimed 4th women’s team and 3rd in the vets. The men came 4th in the senior race and KTH vets won again with 2018 debutant Tom Shepherd shining in Phil West’s absence.

Notable individual performances came from Kerry Munn who won the F55 to make it three in a row and Matt Fowler was 3rd M40 to put him in first place in the current standings. Other top ten category finishes came from: Yvonne Mehmet (6th F45), Elaine Fairbrother (7th F40), Jack Chennell (6th MS), Phil Bridgen (7th M40) and Tom Shepherd (10th M40).

Please let Phil West know if you have PB’d or improved on recent form at each race on the night so we can mention in the race report.

All results: Jack Chennell (MS) 34:15, Matt Fowler (M40) 34:25, Phil Brigden (M40) 35:53, Tom Shepherd (M40) 37:33, Ross Brown (M40) 38:13, Martin Allinson (MS) 38:23, Matthew Spearman (MS) 39:52, Sean Gallagher (MS) 39:59, Vince Galiano (M50) 42:51, Kerry Munn (F55) 43:37, Elaine Fairbrother (F40) 44:02, Yvonne Mehmet (F45) 47:11, Eddie Murphy (M55) 48:54, Rob Britten (M50) 49:29, Lauren Mehmet (FS) 53:48.

It is encouraging for the series (now three races in) that we have the numbers and strength in depth to pull out these results week on week. A big thank you to the late comers: Yvonne, Lauren, Tom and Vince. Not forgetting those of you that have supported the team from Silverstone.

The fun continues at the Corby 5, Wednesday 6th June 7.45pm at East Carlton Park. Some impromptu interrogation at the Parkrun from Matt and Phil has revealed that Corby are putting out a strong team because they want to make their mark on their home race. Let’s show them who’s boss!
