visual impairment (VI) sessions avaliable

Four of Kettering Town Harriers members, who are also regulars at parkrun, and volunteers, Richard Vater, Rebecca Murphy, Trudi Pike & Ross Brown, have recently completed the VI guide running course.

Richard, Rebecca, Trudi & Ross, all qualified VI guides

The England Athletics Sight Loss Awareness and Guide Running Workshop they attended has been developed in conjunction with British Blind Sport and provides runners, leaders, coaches and volunteers with information and experience about supporting visually impaired people to run. The workshop covered a number of areas including types of visual impairment (VI), behaviour and terminology and how to make running sessions VI friendly.

Richard, Rebecca and Trudi are also qualified running group leaders at Kettering Town Harriers, and take out running groups of differing abilities. Having undertaken the VI guide running course all four are now qualified and available to also offer a guide to any visually impaired people in the community who wish to run. We can offer a range of paces from walk/jog, just starting out, to a more experienced VI runner who wants to improve, or achieve a PB.

Details of our running sessions can be found on the club website or site ‘Run Together’- contact details can be found, and if a guide runner is requested one of our qualified guides will be happy to get in touch.
